I stumbled across this infographic from Argyle Social about the most optimal times to post social media updates for your business, and I decided to share it with you, because it has been a while since I’ve seen updated data on this subject. More and more hotels and restaurants are pushing out updates on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks, but they often don’t think about the strategy behind when to content.
If you have a social media manager or someone dedicated to managing your social content, I hope they are thinking about social timing, because the amount of engagement you receive is affected by when you submit or schedule a post. Engagement, who cares about that, right? Wrong. Your goal on social profiles should always be to increase and promote engagement and conversation. It’s not a race to see how many posts XYZ company can throw up in one week.
Here are some major takeaways I pulled from this infographic:
- Not surprisingly, marketers are sending out social updates during work hours.
- Consumers and other businesses might be checking Facebook during work hours, but they are engaging more at night and on weekends when they have more time to participate in the conversation.
- Twitter users are engaging more during the week, because they are often looking for breaking news, professional development, and Twitter is much easier to quickly scroll through and respond to due to the limited character count.
- Obviously, engagement for B2B with Twitter and Facebook is better during the day and in the morning. For B2C, it’s better to post at night and on Sundays.
- Don’t hang your hat on this data. Use it as a guide, and test it for your brand/industry.
Here at
RP Interactive, we do take into account the timing of our posts. We try to post in the early morning, lunch time, and night time. And if we schedule posts for clients on the weekend, we tend to lean towards Sunday unless the post is time sensitive. Don’t overanalyze this data, because every set of Facebook fans/Twitter followers are different. Make a conscious effort to post during times and days that make the most sense to your target hotel guest or customer.
